Macon’s ‘state-of-the-art’ pickleball courts make it destination for national championship

Macon holds its indoor pickleball facility in high regard, and it was packed with players over the weekend for national championships. Rhythm and Rally Sports and Events hosted hundreds of people 50 and over, who turned out for the second day of the U.S. Senior Indoor Pickleball National Championships in hopes of winning a national title.

Lake Tobesofkee could become a profitable tourist attraction with a more than $23 million unsolicited proposal offered to Macon-Bibb County to transform amenities at the 1,800-acre lake. Lovejoy Capital, led by a descendant of one of the most politically powerful families in Georgia history, wants to build a “luxurious and immersive experience in nature” with exotic “glamping.”

Georgia Republican and Democratic officials are condemning the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at a rally on Saturday.

Former Georgia insurance commissioner John Oxendine has been sentenced to more than three-and-a-half years in prison for conspiring to commit health care fraud and money laundering.

Georgia paramedics are already required to learn basic medical care. But patients in serious condition often need advanced care. A program in South Georgia that aims to train paramedics for these cases.

127-year-old peach farm is 40 minutes from Macon. Ice cream motivates many to make the trip

Forty minutes west of Macon in Musella, there’s an open-air peach packaging building with muggy air, a slightly sweet smell and an abundance of local produce. Dickey Farms has been growing peaches for 127 years. The farm began in 1897 with the planting of its first peach trees by the great-great-grandfather of Lee Dickey, who is the farm’s current vice president.
