The move gives Republicans a prominent candidate who is well-positioned to run a competitive campaign for the GOP in a state that hasn't had a Republican U.S. senator in 37 years.

Former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan announced over the weekend he will not run for president in 2024, but hopes to shape the future of the GOP. He talks to NPR about what he wants to see from his party.

In his veto, Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan wrote that "The bill risks lowering the high standard of reproductive healthcare services received by women in Maryland."

Maryland is the first state to issue a comprehensive set of pardons to the victims of lynching. Across the U.S., more than 4,000 Black people were lynched in acts of racial terror.

Hogan, a Republican, will co-chair with former Connecticut Sen. Joseph Lieberman. Together they will push centrist political ideas as new Congress is set to convene early next year.

Inmates must test negative for COVID-19 before their release. No one convicted of a sexual offense or crime of violence is eligible. The move is to protect both prisoners and prison employees.

Six states will purchase 3 million rapid tests, and more states may join the consortium. Maryland, Virginia, Louisiana, Michigan, Ohio and Massachusetts want to stem a severe testing shortage.
