Gov. Brian Kemp visits Korea, DMZ: '1,800 meters apart'

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp left Monday on a trip to Asia — his sixth overseas since taking office in 2019 —  to focus on economic partnerships for Georgia. The Kemps' trip also included a visit to the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), which runs across the Korean Peninsula and was established in 1953 under the provisions of the Korean Armistice Agreement.

Georgia seaports handled a record number of automobiles in 2023 while container trade dropped 16%

The Georgia Ports Authority says it handled a record number of automobiles on its docks last year. The state agency reported Tuesday that more than 775,000 autos and heavy machinery units moved through the Port of Brunswick in the 2023 calendar year.

Hyundai has joined Honda and Toyota in raising factory worker wages after the United Auto Workers union reached new contract agreements with Detroit automakers. Hyundai said Monday that it will raise factory worker pay 25% by 2028. That matches the general wage increase won by the UAW during that period.

Higher investment means Hyundai could get $2.1 billion in aid to make electric cars in Georgia

Georgia will give Hyundai Motor Group a projected $2.1 billion in tax breaks and other incentives to build electric cars and batteries in the state. That amount is up by nearly $300 million after Hyundai and battery make LG Energy Solution announced last month that they would raise their own investment at the complex west of Savannah by more than $2 billion.
