The Department of Homeland Security has officially removed its list of "sanctuary jurisdictions" from its website, which included six areas in Georgia. The designation has sparked confusion in some of the communities on the controversial list.  

The administration argues the men's home countries won't take them — but lawyers say getting sent to a country like South Sudan could lead to more persecution.

But in a mixed ruling, federal Judge Michael Farbiarz declined, for now, to order Khalil released from immigration detention.

Khalil's lawyers are trying to convince an immigration judge that if he's deported, Israel could target him over his advocacy for Palestinian rights.

This comes in response to a lawsuit Harvard filed on Friday morning, challenging the Trump administration's abrupt move to revoke the school's ability to enroll foreign students.

International students make up more than a quarter of Harvard University's student body. Harvard says the government's actions, which could cut off a major revenue stream, are "unlawful."

The judge says the administration "unquestionably" violated his earlier order, which stated migrants cannot be deported to a country other than their own without having adequate notice and a chance to object.

If approved, the move would be the first time Guard troops at the national level have been asked to assist in the removal of migrants in the U.S. without legal status.

The Homeland Security Department pitched the monetary incentive as a more "dignified" way to leave the country, while saving taxpayers money.

DHS official Tricia McLaughlin pushed back on claims that the Trump administration is ignoring due process, saying it is "going to look different" based on legal status or alleged gang affiliation.

Trump hopes to deport and imprison U.S. citizens abroad. Critics say the concept is unconstitutional and dangerous.

The government sent several planeloads of alleged gang members to El Salvador, including 137 people under the act, the White House said at the time. The judge gave the U.S. until April 23 to respond.

The judge gave Khalil until April 23 to request a stay of his deportation and said that if his attorneys miss the deadline, she will order him deported either to Syria or to Algeria

Khalil's attorneys say the government's case against their client largely rests on a memo from Secretary of State Marco Rubio alleging Khalil participated in "antisemitic" and "disruptive activities."

Effective immediately, the government says it will begin screening immigrant social media for activity that officials think indicates support for antisemitism.
