A federal court says Alabama can't use a congressional map it found unconstitutional. The ruling comes in a voting rights case that resulted in the state getting a second Black member of Congress.

The case is nearly identical to a case the court ruled on two years ago from Alabama, though the outcome could make it more difficult for minorities to prevail in redistricting cases.

A federal district court ruled that the new map drawn by the state legislature violated the Voting Rights Act by diluting the Black vote. A group of conservatives challenged the legislature's map.
