A statue of Confederate general Albert Pike, which had been pulled down during the Black Lives Matter movement, has been put back up in Washington, D.C.'s Judiciary Square.

Fort Lee, named after the leader of Confederate forces during the Civil War, was redesignated on Thursday to honor Lt. Gen. Arthur Gregg and Lt. Col. Charity Adams.

The GOP-controlled Senate overwhelmingly approved the measure, which the president has threatened to veto because it calls for changing the names of military bases honoring Confederate leaders.

Gov. Ralph Northam wrote a letter to school boards across the state saying he wants to change the names that have a "traumatizing impact on students, families, teachers and staff of all backgrounds."
