The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office sits off of Oglethorpe Street on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, in Macon, Ga.
One person was killed and four others were injured after an altercation inside the Bibb County Jail on Wednesday, according to county officials.
The sheriff’s office first announced the altercation, saying several inmates were injured in an “aggravated assault” incident. Coroner Leon Jones later confirmed to The Telegraph that Breele Jahiem Johnson was killed.
Johnson, 22, had been in the jail since June 2023, Jones said. He was facing charges of aggravated assault, theft, possessing a gun during the commission of a felony and other offenses.
Sheriff David Davis said a “large fight” took place inside the jail involving several inmates, leaving four injured and Johnson dead. Their families were notified.
Three of the injured were taken to a hospital; two were being treated at the infirmary inside the jail, Davis said.
Davis said the GBI has been called to investigate.
