Over 100 protesters gathered at a park in Atlanta on Sunday afternoon to speak out against what they’re calling the “death of democracy.”

Demonstrators in Piedmont Park laid on the ground with homemade headstones for what they called a "die in," while a band played the funeral march.

Bree Boyd, the vice chair of 50501 Georgia, helped to organize the event after seeing a similar event in another state.

“We are literally watching democracy crumbling before our eyes," she said. "So this is to bring attention to that, to show everything that’s at risk.

"Democracy is obviously massive, but we’re talking civil rights, we’re talking basic equal rights," she said, adding that the unique event is a way to show their creativity.

Some of the demonstrators, like Laura Gordon, found out about the event on social media.

"Time is running very, very short, and our freedom is ... dying — with a capital D," she said, holding a sign that said 'death by ignorance, passivity, and neglect' with a crumpled up American flag.

Other attendees brought signs mourning the "death" of due process, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and free speech.

The demonstration was organized by 50501 Georgia, a movement that coordinates protests in all 50 states against actions taken by the administration of President Donald Trump.
