The Atlanta Department of Parks and Recreation announced Sunday it will close all outdoor pools for an operational assessment. There is currently no timeline for when the city’s 12 public pools will reopen.

The move comes shortly after news broke that a 17-year-old boy was shot and killed at Anderson pool in Atlanta on Saturday. Atlanta Police Department said it was not involved with the closures, and the city didn’t mention the shooting in its statement.

This decision will have the greatest effect on families who use pools to cool off during the hottest months of the year. August is the second warmest month in Georgia according to climate data and National Weather Service scientists predict temperatures could be above average this year.

DPR said on Twitter that it will post updates when they're available.
