Gov. Brian Kemp is throwing his support behind legislation against street racing.

House Bill 534 has bipartisan support and would make reckless stunt driving illegal and bar the promotion and organization of illegal drag racing.

Kemp said the bill would also toughen penalties for street racing.

"We can secure a safer future for our families, our children, and for our neighbors," Kemp said during a Friday press conference at the Capitol where he announced his support for the legislation.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the city of Atlanta has seen a huge uptick in street racing and authorities have made several arrests.
