Working from home is the new normal now, even for local government officials, as an effort to prevent the spread of coronavirus.GPB's Sophia Saliby reports on the first remote meeting of the Atlanta City Council.
In Atlanta, the City Council held its first remote meeting Tuesday.
Before Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms closed City Hall over the weekend, Tuesday's meeting was scheduled to be a test. Instead, Atlanta City Council went ahead with their regular session via a conference call.
The meeting wasn’t without technical difficulties as council members and city staff made sure they were connecting to the call and got used to electronically voting.
"We’re doing all that we can to continue the business of the city and ensure safety for yourself and others by doing this remotely," said Council President Felicia Moore.
Council members discussed making the city’s public pools free and zoning measures among other issues.
The public was also allowed to submit questions and comment over email.
