Mahogany’s picks:

  • Get ready for spring at the Low Country Home and Garden Show, all weekend at the convention center. The show highlights the latest in home and garden design and will be full of ideas for remodeling, landscaping and more Friday through Sunday. Full schedule here; $7.
  • Lace up your shoes for the Unity 5K on MLK, this year happening on Martin Luther King Boulevard. The race benefits Blessings in a Bookbag and is followed by a free festival with music, food and fun for the whole family. The race begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at the corner of MLK and Gwinnett, with the festival at the same spot at 10 a.m.; $55 race registration Friday, $60 day-of.
  • Send the kids to St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church’s Convo Lock-in. They’ll have the chance to eat and learn about Martin Luther King, Jr. before attending the parade, beginning at 6 p.m. Sunday.
  • Celebrate Martin Luther King with Savannah’s annual parade, beginning at 10 a.m. Monday.

Rachael’s picks:

  • Enjoy some hockey at the Savannah Hockey Classic. Teams from the University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, the University of Florida and Florida State will square off on the ice at the civic center on Friday and Saturday. Full schedule here; $10-18.
  • Witness history with Richmond Hill’s Martin Luther King Day parade on Saturday. It will also mark the new activation of the Bryan County Branch no. 5648 of the NAACP. The parade begins at 10 a.m.
  • Support Savannah’s waterways at Savannah Riverkeeper’s annual Roast on the River, at Hogan’s Marina. Enjoy roasted oysters, along with drinks, music, a raffle and more from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday; $50 per person, $90 per couple.
  • Enjoy a night of community at the Saturday Night Lights pop-up at PERC. Beer sales by Southbound will benefit Loop it Up Savannah, and Big Bon Pizza will be on hand along with lots of local vendors from 6 to 8:30 p.m.; $5.
  • Learn more about Savannah’s beloved Flannery O’Connor at the first in this year’s spring lecture series at her childhood home. Kelley Kidd grew up near Andalusia and will share first-hand stories of Flannery during this afternoon of informal storytelling starting at 4 p.m. Sunday; free.
