Another Federal Subpoena Issued In Atlanta City Hall Corruption Investigation

Another federal subpoena was issued Thursday in the bribery investigation of Atlanta's City Hall.

The U.S. District Court of North Georgia has asked the city to provide all financial records related to former watershed commissioner Jo Ann Macrina.

The subpoena also requested her travel records and expenses from January to May of 2016, her calendar, and any ethics training she had received.

Former Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed fired Macrina in 2016 for what the AJC reported was due to “questionable international travel” and “management missteps.”

This is just the latest in the running investigation of corruption at Atlanta’s City Hall.

Last August, all spending records from Reed’s two terms as mayor and travel and purchasing card records from his staffers were requested via federal subpoena.

So far, there have been six guilty pleas made in the corruption investigation.

The city’s former chief procurement officer, two contractors and three other city employees have all pleaded guilty.

Earlier this year, Katrina Parks, who was Reed’s deputy chief of staff, was sentenced to 21 months in prison for accepting bribes during her time in office.

Current Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms has introduced legislation to more closely monitor city spending. The city has also since launched an open checkbook that allows the public to track city spending.
