April is here, bringing with it plenty of ways to have fun on the Georgia coast. Claire Sandow of the Tourism Leadership Council and Bevin Valentine Jalbert of Paprika Southern have some tips.Claire and Bevin talk weekend events

Bevin's picks:

  • Check out Savannah's new green bike lane when Bike Walk Savannah holds a ribbon-cutting celebrating the newly painted and re-striped Lincoln Street Bike Lane. Participants are encouraged to bike over, and enjoy snacks and drinks provided by the Sentient Bean at 8:15 a.m. Friday.
  • Celebrate the new month at April's First Fridays in Starland. Highlights this month include new work by Dana Richardson at the Rat on Bull, the exhibit Lineage by Anya Mitchell at Starland Cafe and Sulfur Studios' open studios and street fair, from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday; free.
  • Take the whole family to the Big Bon x Foxy Carnival at Foxy Loxy. The evening includes Big Bon pizza, a special Foxy kids menu and the Cold Brew Bike along with live music, games, a petting zoo and more from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

  • Head to Jekyll Island for the book festival this weekend. Enjoy presentations and signings by featured authors, live music and more from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Head down early for a dinner with featured cookbook authors at 6:30 p.m. Friday; $75.
  • Get your run on at the Publix Savannah Women's Half Marathon and 5K. The fitness fun starts with a shakeout run at 9 a.m. Friday to get you ready. Then the race begins at Forsyth Park at 7:30 a.m. Saturday; $120 half marathon or $50 5K, registration at Friday expo.
  • Geek out at Savannah Comic Con. Meet visiting talent, attend workshops, enter the cosplay contest and more, Saturday and Sunday at the convention center; $15-50 passes.
  • Cheer on the Savannah Derby Devils and Hostess City Hellions as they take on Greenville and Orlando in their home opener from 4:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday (games at 5 and 7:30); $12 adults, $2 kids, $25 family.
