Atlanta United’s new head coach says he’s eager to start working with the MLS Cup-winning soccer team.

Frank de Boer played professional soccer for nearly 20 years in Europe and began coaching in 2007.

He said he’s prepared to continue the team’s success into its third season.

“It’s a different year, this year," de Boer said. "Everybody expects a lot of Atlanta United; that’s normal when you’re champions."

Atlanta United will play next in the Concacaf Champions League at the end of February.

They face off against Costa Rican team CS Herediano in the first match of the tournament that draws teams from the Caribbean and North and Central America.

Atlanta United’s regular season begins in March.
