Democrat Lucy McBath has declared victory over Republican incumbent Karen Handel in Georgia's 6th District, but results have yet to be certified and are still within the recount range.

The district covers parts of Cobb, Dekalb and Fulton counties.

Handel appeared to have the majority last night as ballots were tallied, but the race tightened up overnight.

According to the the secretary of state's website, McBath is leading Handel by almost 3,000 votes.

Karen Handel was elected to the 6th District in a special election last year. She defeated Democrat Jon Ossoff in the race to fill Tom Price's vacancy.
