After the shooting at the Capitol Gazette in Annapolis two weeks ago, journalists are questioning what free press means to American society.

On Second Thought's Virginia Prescott discussed with a panel of analysts and journalists the lack of trust in the media by Americans.

Should the media just report the facts or give some interpretation to whats going on? How many Americans believe that the news organizations favored one side of the political party? We discussed these questions and how faith in the nation’s media are at an all-time low.

Our panelists were:

Bill Nigut, the host of Political Rewind and Two-Way Street.

Michael Barthel, a senior researcher at the Pew Center

David Hazinski, a professor of journalism at the University of Georgia

Nsenga Burton, the chair of the Mass Media Arts Department at Clark Atlanta University
