Listener Wesley Prude commented on our website that he’d like to know about the Eagles Landing community. Prude said he’s lived in the area for 15 years and has never seen an eagle.

Eagles Landing is located in Stockbridge, Ga. south of Atlanta.

Unfortunately, we are unable to why the area was named after the bird, but,we did find information on eagles in Georgia.

In the early 1900's  bald eagles commonly nested along Georgia’s coast and in the Okefenokee Swamp. They might have also nested in areas with major access to water like Pates Creek which runs through Eagles Landing.

Eagles also have significance in Muskogee Creek culture who were local to the area, and many native American cultures regard eagle feathers with some importance.
