In 2002, he founded Kenny Leon's True Colors Theatre Company in Atlanta, which is still active today.
Leon's Broadway directorial debut was a revival of Lorraine Hansberry's "A Raisin in the Sun" in 2004. Ten years later, he won a Tony for directing a second revival of the play. More recently, Leon has directed NBC's live stage productions of "The Wiz" and "Hairspray."
