Rep. Terry England (R-Auburn) chairs the House Appropriations Committee. He said the budget includes substantial funding for transportation infrastructure and a 3 percent pay raise for teachers and other state employees.

"We expect dividends, long term dividends in our investments. We want our roads to last 20 plus years, and we want our employees to work hard and stay for 20 plus years," England said on the House floor Friday.

The fiscal year 2017 budget is close to 3 percent larger than the fiscal year 2016 amended budget. That budget came in at $22.9 billion and currently awaits final approval from Gov. Nathan Deal.
