The man who shot and killed a TV reporter and her cameraman in Virginia once worked at a station in Savannah.

Vester Lee Flanagan, who also went by the name Bryce Williams, was a reporter at WTOC from 1997 to 1999.

"This is the last person I would ever expect to do something like this. I’ve never seen him angry," said WTOC anchor Dawn Baker. "I don’t know what happened to him since he left Savannah, but there was nothing here that would ever give you a hint that he was mentally ill that he even had the ability or desire to take someone’s life."

Baker says Flanagan left WTOC on good terms. He was fired from WDBJ in Roanoke, Va, in 2013. Colleagues said he was angry and difficult to work with.

Flanagan killed himself Wednesday, after being pursued by police in connection with the murder of WDBJ reporter Alison Parker and her photographer, Adam Ward.
