If you thought the Sony hack from late last year was particularly nasty, consider what happened to ashleymadison.com this week. The website for cheating spouses, where the motto is “life is short - have an affair,” was discovered to have been hacked. Those responsible say they’ll publish the names, credit cards and sexual fantasies of 37 million customers if Ashley Madison and another hookup website run by its parent company aren’t permanently shut down. As more of our lives go online, even our private lives, and as we move deeper into the “internet of things,” are we also entering a scary new level of hacking potential?
