j roddy walston and the business

Anna Chandler, arts and entertainment editor of Connect Savannah, and Jim Reed, executive and artistic director of the Psychotronic Film Society and film columnist for , offer up some ways to have fun in Coastal Georgia this weekend.

Jim’s picks:

-Watch the film already being hailed as one of the year’s best documentaries at Muse Arts Warehouse on Thursday. “Don’t Think I’ve Forgotten” explores the little-known world of Camodian rock music that thrived in the mid-20th century, and the brutal crackdown by the Khmer Rouge that all but stamped it out. Thursday, 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.; $9.

-Ever wonder what all the fuss over plastic bags is about? Check out the documentary “Bag It,” showing for free at the Sentient Bean on Thursday. The film investigates the effects of plastic on waterways. Thursday, 6:30 p.m.; free.

-Wish beloved snarky actor Rupert Everett a happy birthday with a screening of one of his lesser-known films next Wednesday. “Cemetery Man” is a zombie flick and a rom-com all rolled into one. Wednesday, June 3, 8 p.m.; $7.

Anna’s picks:

-Celebrate the opening of a unique new business on Thursday with Starlandia Supply’s grand opening party. The store sells reclaimed and recycled art supplies, and the party will feature live music from Sunglow, ORTHODOX, Ross Fish and Vinay Arora - as well as cake and a free “mystery tube” with every purchase. Thursday, 5-8 p.m.; free.

-The popular story “Big Fish” has gone from the page to the screen - and now it’s coming to the stage of Savannah Children’s Theater. The story explores a father and son’s relationship through the father’s fantastical tales. Opening Friday and running through June 14, shows Fridays at 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.; $15-20.

-Enjoy what promises to be a lively show at the Jinx on Friday with Stopover alumni J Roddy Walston and The Business with Avers. Whether you missed those bands at past festivals or have been dying to see them again, this is your chance. Friday, 10 p.m.; $20-25.
