Peabody Awards

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — The University of Georgia says a board of advisers has been created to provide guidance and support for the Peabody Awards program's future initiatives.

The school says the board will be distinct and separate from the board of jurors that each year evaluates entries and bestows the George Foster Peabody Awards. The media awards recognize achievement and public service by television and radio stations, individuals and the Internet.

The new 24-member board will be made up of prominent entertainment and media industry leaders. The board is meant to provide counsel to Peabody director Jeffrey P. Jones.

Five committees have been established for the board: branding and mission; the Peabody archives and endowments; original content and programming; internationalization; and events.
