The Band

Visit Savannah’s Erica Backus and Do Savannah’s Heather Henley offer up some ways to kick off your holiday celebrations in Savannah.

Erica’s picks:

-Celebrate the season Victorian-style with Christmas with the Gordons at the Juliette Gordon Low birthplace museum. The house will be decorated for Christmas and full of the customs and traditions of 1886 holidays. Begins Thursday and runs through Dec. 20, full hours here; $10 with discounts for children and Girl Scouts

-Meet Savannah’s famed family of southern food and get your books signed, Friday at the Lady and Sons. Paula Deen and sons Jamie and Bobby will be on hand. Just 200 wristbands will be distributed for the event, starting at 9 a.m., but you can get a fast pass by donating blood that morning. Full details here. Friday, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.; free

-Sample some of the best of Savannah’s live performance with Savannah Live at the Savannah Theatre. Friday is your last chance to catch the show - including pop, Broadway, Motown and rock’n’roll - until after Christmas. Friday, 8 p.m.; $35 adults, $17 children

-If you’d like a break from cooking this Thanksgiving, find your holiday feast at one of Savannah’s restaurants with help from Savannah Secrets.
