Georgia added more jobs in the solar energy industry than any other state last year. According to a new report from the Pew Charitable Trusts, the number of people employed in solar power jobs jumped from 800 in 2012 to 2,600 in 2013.

The definition of “solar jobs” is broad. It includes everything from workers who install solar panels to factories that make those panels. Phyllis Cuttino, director of Pew's clean energy project, says solar companies are attracted to Georgia for a number of reasons, including a requirement to add 525 megawatts of solar power to the state’s electrical grid by 2016.

"Georgia has installed a suite of policies, the solar goal being one of them. But that kind of policy certainty tells investors this is a market we can go to and be successful," she says.

Pew looked at efforts to develop clean energy in Georgia and seven other states. You can read their report here and listen to an interview with Phyllis Cuttino by clicking on the link at the top left of this story.
