Eddie Shirey of Conyers, Ga.

Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman’s path through Georgia in 1864 was dramatic, bloody, and instrumental in ending the Civil War. Now, an Atlanta-area man is turning that route into an opportunity for exercise, and economic development.

Eddie Shirey, 62, is a cabinet maker in Conyers and an avid cyclist. He’s writing a book tracing Sherman’s March by bicycle. He’s making the journey this week, and he spoke with GPB’s Sarah McCammon.
