Schools and businesses across Middle Georgia will be back in full swing Friday after the ice storm. It was a long Wednesday night for many who lost power as trees fell. Although the storm warnings have expired, emergency management officials say residents need to be careful as all the water from the day’s thaw could freeze again Thursday night causing icy conditions.

Don Druitt is director of the Macon-Bibb Emergency Management Agency. "Even though its starting to melt here we’ve had ice falling off of our towers and trees and as a result we could still see some toppling of trees in some of our neighborhoods."

Druitt says melting ice could re-freeze Thursday on roads and bridges so people should drive with caution Thursday night and Friday morning.

Druitt says Macon-Bibb County has had up to 5-thousand customers without power. Georgia Power is working to restore power.
