The governors and lawmakers from South Carolina and Georgia are set for a summit on water management issues in the Savannah River basin.

Gov. Nathan Deal of Georgia will host South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley the event Wednesday in Hartwell, Ga., near the South Carolina border. Authorities from the Army Corps of Engineers will attend, along with lawmakers who have formed the Savannah River Basin Caucus that spans both states.

The caucus held its first meeting in Columbia, S.C., this spring.

The communities represented in the caucus have varying interests, from water levels in lakes to transfers among rainwater-drainage basins.

Officials in the two states, meanwhile, have been at odds over plans to deepen the river near Savannah to allow for port expansion.
