The Muscogee County coroner says a 15-year-old boy who collapsed during a pickup basketball game has died.

Coroner Buddy Bryan says 15-year-old Antwon Whitehead collapsed during a game at Carver High School in Columbus Saturday and later died.

Witnesses have said Whitehead sat down on a bench after making a shot and fell over when his body went stiff. He was pronounced dead at the Columbus Regional Medical Center.

Bryan told WTVM that Whitehead likely died of cardiac arrest. He told the Ledger-Enquirer of Columbus that enlarged hearts run in the teen's family, and an autopsy would be conducted in Atlanta.

Basketball coach Warren Beaulah says the teen was expected to play as a forward on the team this year.
