A funeral has been scheduled for today in Calhoun for Bert Lance, an ally of former President Jimmy Carter who served as budget director before departing amid a high-profile investigation of his banking activities.

Lance died Thursday at the age of 82.

Thomas Funeral Office says Lance's funeral will be held at the Calhoun First United Methodist Church on Saturday at 3 p.m. Carter is among those expected to attend.

During his career, Lance served as head of the Georgia Department of Transportation and ran unsuccessfully for governor in 1974. He was Carter's first director of the Office of Management and Budget but his career was derailed by an investigation that became a major distraction for the president.

Carter accepted Lance's resignation in September 1977, though they remained close friends.
