A gun rights advocacy group has found a new host for its summer convention after a misunderstanding led to its ouster from a west Georgia resort.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Monday that Georgia Carry officials plan to host their summer convention at the Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel and Convention Center, near the Cobb Galleria Centre in Vinings. The convention is scheduled for Aug. 9-10.

The group planned to host its convention at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain. A resort employee told Georgia Carry Executive Director Jerry Henry that members could openly carry firearms on resort property.

In May, a resort spokeswoman apologized to the group, saying the resort has a policy banning weapons from the premises.
