The University of North Georgia has inaugurated its new President, Bonita C. Jacobs.

The school in Dahlonega — about 65 miles northwest of Atlanta — celebrated the inauguration with a reception and scholarship ball Friday. Jacobs came to North Georgia College and State University in 2011 but her inauguration was deferred because the school was considering consolidating with Gainesville State College.

The Georgia Board of Regents ratified the consolidation in 2013.

The University of North Georgia operates four campuses in northeast Georgia and has an enrollment of about 15,000 students.
