Lawmakers Work On River Issues

Lawmakers from Georgia and South Carolina are pledging to hold additional meetings to discuss water issues along the Savannah River.

South Carolina Rep. Don Bowen, R-Anderson, and Georgia Rep. Alan Powell, R-Hartwell, said Tuesday they agree there are many issues of common interest to discuss. Those could range from tourism to economic development, drought matters and dealing with federal agencies on water issues.

The two men spoke at a luncheon after Georgia lawmakers spent several hours during a visit to the Statehouse in Columbia.

Bowen told the group they will have town hall meetings in communities along the river as well as more sessions in both state capitols. Powell said there is strength in numbers, particularly when dealing with the federal government.
