Voters in Baker County may have to wait until January to decide who their next sheriff will be.

Judge Loring Gray had ordered that Sheriff Dana Meade and challenger Tim Williamson would have to face off again after determining there was sufficient evidence of voting irregularities to cast doubt on the Aug. 21 runoff, which Meade won by 39 votes.

Initially, the judge had ordered the redo would happen on Nov. 6, but The Albany Herald reported Wednesday that election officials said they could not meet that deadline.

Now voters will meet on Jan. 8 to cast their ballots.

Meanwhile, Meade has filed an appeal with the state Supreme Court of the judge's initial order calling for a second runoff.
