The Georgia attorney general has asked the state's highest court to expedite an appeal in the case of a death row inmate whose execution was delayed this week.

The Georgia Supreme Court on Monday granted a stay of execution to Warren Lee Hill so it could consider an appeal by the inmate over Georgia's recent switch from a three-drug combination to a single-drug execution method.

Attorney General Sam Olens says in a court filing Tuesday that the court's granting of a stay effectively keeps any executions from being carried out in Georgia until the state Supreme Court resolves the issue.

The high court said it would consider whether the execution procedure switch is subject to the state's Administrative Procedure Act, which requires public hearings before such a change is made.
