High school soccer season kicks off with many familiar names atop the rankings.

Perennial powers Starr’s Mill and Collins Hill are the teams to watch in all classifications. Both are defending champions, and bring back a ton of talent. The Panthers actually beat the Eagles 3-2 in the teams’ season opener. There’s plenty more to look for across all classifications. Lassiter have become one of the state’s more consistent programs and are ranked No. 2 in Class AAAAA.

McIntosh will again be in the mix in Class AAAA. And a pair of teams from Region 6 in Marist and Lakeside should also figure into the equation.

In AAA, Gainesville defend their title with Woodward and St. Pius both providing formidable challenges.

It’s the usual suspects in AA, with Thomasville, Westminster, Blessed Trinity and GAC all amongst the favorites.

For the first time, A and AA will not be combined into one region. Aquinas is ranked No. 1 in A.

On the girls side, Starr’s Mill, Pius and Marist are ranked just as highly as their male counterparts. But Mark Karen’s North Gwinnett Bulldogs figure to be the team to watch, and they are ranked No. 1 in all classifications to begin the season.
