GOP Takeover Would Hand A Gavel To Kingston
Primary Content
Changes will be in store for Georgia's Congressional delegation if the Republicans take the US House.
One lawmaker could wield a chairman's gavel.
Savannah Republican Jack Kingston is the ranking minority member of the House Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee.
That panel sets US budget priorities for agriculture, school lunch, food safety and other programs.
Kingston says, he has to get through next week first.
"We're all focusing, really, on November 2nd and not potential spoils of November 3rd," Kingston says. "I'm working hard to make sure that I'm re-elected and I hope others are doing the same thing."
Kingston, however, faces a weak Democratic challenger and is all but assured re-election.
He would be the state's only chairman should the GOP take control of the House.
On a Georgia visit, GOP leader John Boener promised to consider Austin Scott and Mike Keown for committee positions should they unseat their Democratic rivals Jim Marshall and Sanford Bishop.
