Georgia Tech Demonstrates Unmanned Robots
Primary Content

This week Georgia Tech researchers are demonstrating unmanned robots at the Robotics Rodeo in Fort Benning. The two model airplanes and a Porsche Cayenne S-U-V have the ability to think and communicate with each other without human assistance. Charles Pippen with Georgia Tech describes what Tuesday’s demonstration:
“We had both of our planes up in the air. They were each performing a search pattern and then one of them spotted the target. It began to survey the target, flying by itself and changing its course by itself and it called for help from the other plane and also from the car. Then the car and the other plan went to the target at that point.”
Later this week, the S-U-V will perform without the airplanes. Pippen says one day these vehicles could be used to deliver help to people in disaster situations when they could not otherwise be reached.
