Authorities say almost 2,000 fugitives were arrested in Georgia during the month of June in a special roundup by federal, state and local law enforcement agents.

Overall, 1,488 outstanding warrants were cleared and dozens of weapons were seized along with more than 12 kilograms of narcotics in Operation Falcon, which stands for Federal and Local Cops Organized Nationally.

U.S. Marshal Richard Mecum and James Ergas, the supervisory inspector of the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force in Atlanta, said at a news conference Thursday that this is the fifth year for Operation Falcon.

Mecum and Ergas said that in north Georgia, 1,195 fugitives were captured, while there were 460 in the middle district of Georgia and 326 in the southern district.
