America’s cities have been the nation’s centers of innovation and progress since its birth, yet also the home to some of its greatest trials and challenges. And there has been no greater a challenge than in the last several years as the country faced extreme hardships and turmoil, leaving cities reeling and fighting for new footing. In 2020, the WNET Group took a leadership role in this conversation, creating American Cities Rebuilding – a livestream journalism series focused specifically on our urban centers and their unique circumstances and realities.

American Cities Rebuilding 2022 carries that work into a third year, looking at how to reimagine and reinvigorate our cities in a post-pandemic reality. This year, the conversations will center on five core topics: economic development, healthcare, education, criminal & social justice, and climate change.

Through a series of thoughtful interviews and conversations with key players and leaders, including Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, American Cities Rebuilding 2022 will examine the success stories for some and the obstacles to that success for others. We will be joined by our PBS partners in New York, Denver, Phoenix, and Seattle, making it truly a national conversation.
