How do engineers get their Mars rovers to go all the way into space and remotely conduct tasks? In this STEMonstration, we'll continue to investigate gravity, friction, and the physics behind launched objects, but make it a whole lot more challenging! Using simple materials, GPB educators will build and test a way to move a small ball down a zip-line string in less than four seconds AND release that ball onto a target.

Your STEM students haven't been on a field trip in ages and they've had enough! Join GPB Education and guest teacher Dyanna Motes (Kemp ES, Cobb) for an introduction to movement-based approaches for teaching elementary math. Explore some of the free math movement videos and lesson plans available to all educators and students from PBS LearningMedia then hear how math in motion teaching and learning strategies have been successfully implemented in general and special education elementary classrooms!

Utilizing engaging activities from PBS LearningMedia, participants will become familiar with collections from PBS hit shows that allow students to build their design and iteration skills while investigating and solving problems in engineering and aerospace. All of these resources are bookended with digitally integrated instructional strategies.

Directly addressing modern social issues that students care about can stimulate provocative conversations about the roles of research and science in society. With more than 400 STEM resources from collections like Above the Noise, It’s Okay to be Smart, Braincraft, and the Origin of Everything, participants will learn to navigate the most engaging content in the PBS universe while connecting standards from the classroom with the world beyond.

One of the most exciting features available to teachers via their free PBS LearningMedia accounts is the Lesson Builder tool, newly upgraded for the 2021-22 school year. Lesson Builder allows teachers to identify meaningful educational content then create a personalized, interactive engagement around the content that students can access for an in-class activity or homework assignment.

In this session, participants will be introduced to Lesson Builder and learn how to:
Create lessons by combining media, text, and short quizzes.
Share lessons with students using URLs or assignment codes that can be shared via communications or embedded into learning management tools.
View individual student responses or a summary of results for the entire class.
Share question responses in real-time for in-class discussions.
