Next week, GPB premieres a documentary that sheds light on a little-known chapter of African American history, as well as brand-new episodes of NOVA and Frontline. Take a look at what we've got coming up!

Rising From the Rails: The Story of the Pullman Porter - Monday, January 21 at 8:00 pm

Known as Pullman Porters, they were brought aboard to serve wealthy white passengers during the “Golden Age of Railroad Travel,” but as this documentary shows, they also served as social ambassadors and built the foundations of a new black social class. Enriching and inspiring, Rising from the Rails shines a light on a critical but seldom discussed part of African American history.

Frontline: Coal's Deadly Dust - Tuesday, January 22 at 10:00 pm

An investigation with NPR reveals the rise of severe black lung disease among coal miners, and how industry and government failed to protect them.

NOVA: Kīlauea: Hawaiʻi on Fire - Wednesday, January 23 at 9:00 pm

Join scientists and local residents as they head underground to investigate the geological cause of the eruptions that shook Hawaiʻi in 2018. Along the way, discover how Hawaiʻi’s distinctive volcanoes formed in the first place, and what they tell us about the future of the island chain.
