Weekends were made for catching up with some of your favorite TV programs. If you’re a fan of all things British, you’ll want to clear your calendar as we’ll be bringing you comedies and dramas each weekend this winter. Find out what’s premiering, what’s returning, and what’s in store for your favorite characters.

We know you’ve inquired about the return of Dr. Martin Ellingham on GPB, and we’re pleased to announce season 8 of Doc Martin will air on Fridays this winter! Doc Martin follows Martin Clunes (Martin Clunes: Islands of Australia) in the title role, a brilliant but prickly physician who gives up a surgery practice to settle in the Cornish village of Portwenn as the general practitioner. Season 8 will find Martin and Louisa attempting to rekindle their relationship as they struggle with James, Louisa’s career, and Martin’s blood phobia. Season 8 of Doc Martin will air Fridays at 9 p.m. beginning January 11 and will run for eight episodes. Encore presentations will air Thursdays at 10 p.m. beginning January 17.

Before visiting the residents of Portwenn, we’ll be taking you to Scotland this winter with the premiere of season 1 of Monarch of the Glen on GPB! The series follows Archie MacDonald (Alastair Mackenzie), a young restaurant owner in London attempting to make a living with his girlfriend when he’s called back to his Scottish home in the Highlands to take care of his dying father. But upon arriving, he discovers it was a ruse devised by his mother to make him return to Scotland. In reality, he’s inherited his father’s large estate and grand house, Glenbogle. Archie must decide where his future lies as he’s introduced to new responsibilities and new friends. Monarch of the Glen premieres January 11 at 8 p.m.

Saturday night Britcoms continue to be weekend programming staples on GPB, and this season we’ll be adding another classic program to the mix! Hotel owner Basil Fawlty (John Cleese) is incompetent, arrogant, and easily gets angry. But when he tries to run Fawlty Towers, a seaside hotel set in the town of Torquay on the “English Riviera,” his family and staff end up having to fix his mistakes as he works to bring prestige to both himself and the hotel. Fawlty Towers premieres Saturday, January 5 at 10 p.m.

The wait to return to Buckingham Palace is over! This season, we’ll be airing season 3 of Masterpiece’s Victoria on Sunday nights. The new season opens in 1848 as revolution sweeps across Europe, leaving both Victoria (Jenna Coleman) and Albert (Tom Hughes) with new problems to face. Buckingham Palace sees new arrivals both upstairs and downstairs as Victoria works to reason with Chartists and is reunited with an estranged family member. Meanwhile, Albert relishes his time away from their London life as he pursues an interest in Cambridge. Season 3 of Victoria premieres Sunday, January 13 at a special 8 p.m. time. Victoria will then move to its regular time on Sundays at 9 p.m.

Before visiting Buckingham Palace on Sunday nights, stop at Pemberley for one of the greatest love stories of all time. The acclaimed 1995 TV adaptation of Pride and Prejudice by Andrew Davies airs this winter on GPB! Starring Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth in the roles of Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy, the show follows the 1813 novel closely as Elizabeth Bennet, the second oldest of five sisters, discovers her hasty conclusions about her family, friends, and acquaintances are not always correct as she learns both the importance and difference of superficial priorities and essential values. Pride and Prejudice premieres Sunday, January 20 at 8 p.m. and will run for six episodes.

Don’t forget, you can catch up with your favorite Masterpiece programs on GPB Passport and keep track of our schedule online. Let us know which program you’re looking forward to the most in the comments!
