The St. Pius Golden Lions boy’s soccer team is going for a third straight GHSA championship this year and have upped the ante just a bit. St. Pius won the last two Class AAA championships and this year, the team is moving up to Class AAAA as they go for the trifecta. What a pedigree….St. Pius has ten state championships, one ESPN Fab 50 National Championship, 26 Regional Titles, and 21 Final Four appearances . This year’s team is off to a rip roaring start. Coach David O’Shea’s Golden Lions are a picture perfect 12-0, and get this...they have scored 52 goals in those twelve games while giving up just one. That's it; just one goal given up. Goalie Jake Beyer helps lead the way, as do midfielders Louie Aponte and Austin Fain. And when it comes to scoring, senior striker Edmundo Robinson takes charge. This Friday, the powers collide, as the Golden Lions take on arch rival and now Class AAAA rival Marist. “It's exciting to get them back on the schedule. We have not played them for five years and now it’s not only a big rivalry game, but a big region game as well,” says coach O’Shea. Should be a terrific game on the Marist pitch on Friday. Actions kicks off at 7pm.
