City officials in Columbus have approved spending $1.3 million to stabilize two sections of the Chattahoochee River's banks that collapsed along the city's whitewater course. The Columbus City Council approved the money at a meeting on Tuesday.
Two western Georgia hospitals have announced plans to merge childbirth services. Doctors Hospital is combining labor and delivery services with The Medical Center in Columbus, and will no longer deliver babies at its facility after Oct. 6.
The Muscogee County coroner says a 15-year-old boy who collapsed during a pickup basketball game has died. Coroner Buddy Bryan says 15-year-old Antwon Whitehead collapsed during a game at Carver High School in Columbus Saturday and later died.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia is preparing office space as it plans to add hundreds of jobs in the Columbus area. The Atlanta-based insurance firm has announced in recent weeks that it's adding 600 jobs in Columbus.
