Georgia’s gun industry would enjoy new financial protections under a bill passed by the state Senate Wednesday. The "Georgia Firearms Industry Nondiscrimination Act" won approval despite strong opposition.

The bill would keep banks from refusing to provide credit or financial services to legal gun sellers.

Senator Emmanuel Jones opposes the bill. He says it gives the gun industry an unfair advantage.

“Any time I see any legislation that impacts our banks, that carves out—and that’s exactly what this bill does—carves out a protection for someone in that particular industry, I think all of us should be concerned," says Jones.

Senator Jesse Stone, who sponsored the bill, says it would protect Second Amendment rights and avoid frivolous lawsuits.

Efforts to amend the bill to include protections based on race, religion and sexual identity failed.
