Mayor Kasim Reed told reporters Thursday that waiving the sales tax on would have big economic payoffs.

"In my opinion it's the right thing to do, because the value of winning a Super Bowl outweighs the $5 million in sales tax that we would forego," he said.

The bill that would do that was introduced this week by Rep. Chad Nimmer (R-Blackshear).

It would also waive sales taxes on tickets for other championship sporting events held in the state.
