State Rep. Allen Peake (R-Macon) said his name was among the 37 million to show up in a hack of the adult website, Ashley Madison. Peake shared the news in email, subject line “Tough News," sent to friends and supporters Sunday night.

“Recently a list was published of Georgians that have been on the Ashley Madison website, and my name was on that list. And yes, the truth is that several years ago, I was on this site during a very difficult period in my marriage," Peake wrote. “It was stupid and I was an idiot for going on there.”

Peake wrote that he told his wife about “every detail of my involvement on this site” two and a half years ago. He says his wife forgave him after “much pain and anguish, and with intense professional counseling.”

Peake also wrote in the email that he was evaluating his position as a State Representative. But he told GPB News that "after discussions with close advisers, I decided to continue to hold that seat.” But Peake also said he has not made up his mind whether to run for another term.

Peake said in a telephone conversation that he did not use state computers when on the website.

Peake closed the email by asking for forgiveness.

Peake is one of the most prominent Republican members of the Georgia House, championing the issue of medical marijuana. Earlier this year, he lost an election for House Majority Leader to Rep. Jon Burns (R-Newington).

The parent company of the Ashley Madison website, whose slogan is "Life Is Short, Have An Affair," says hackers breached its network in July.
