Two-thirds of Georgia hospitals will see cuts in their Medicare payments from the federal government.

That's because too many of their Medicare patients returned within a month for additional care.

The penalties are part of the Affordable Care Act, and are supposed to make sure hospitals are tracking what happens to Medicare patients after they're discharged.

The federal government can dock up to three percent of a hospital's payments.

Georgia Health News reports that Piedmont Henry Hospital in Stockbridge will see the biggest cut--more than two and a half percent.
